Dreaming in Cuban is a Good Read
Dreaming in Cuban is a Hispanic book by Cristina Garcia. According to goodreads.com and the New York Times, this book is based on the Cuban Revolution from 1930’s to the 1980’s.
The story is about Celia del Pino and how she and her family struggled during the revolution. Her family includes three generations and the story details their point of view on Cuba. First, there is Celia, who thinks that she a part of something important in history and supports the leader Fidel Castro. Her daughter Lourdes, however, wants no part of Cuba. Cilia’s granddaughter Pilar also says that the memory of Cuba and her grandmother Celia fades away every passing day.
This is a great story that really shows how the Cuban Revolution affected a family and is worth picking up for some reading during Hispanic Heritage Month.
