Like Father, Like Son
Gio Zarate is the son of a professional soccer player from Mexico, so it was a natural choice for him when he was looking for a sport to play. “I don’t play other sports,” he said, “only basketball with my uncle, but that’s it. It’s mostly soccer and… I want to play in college but I don’t know where I’ll go.”
College soccer isn’t the limit for Zarate. He is considering going professional as a soccer player but he is also thinking about having a garage with his father where he can work on American muscle cars.
One of Zarate’s favorite memories in soccer was a time when he shot a 65-yard goal. It is something he cherishes and he would want others to have treasured sports memories, too. “Just give it your best and, if you want the results, you have to work hard for it… I want to win every game.”
To make things more enjoyable at the games, Zarate said that he would want to have music during warm-ups. “Boys’ JV are the only ones that don’t have music,” he said.
