Soccer, water polo, swim, Leadership, Multimedia Academy – if there was a chance for Janessa Barunda to be involved at Armijo in the last four years, she was likely to take it. “Doing Powder Pug my junior year is one of my favorite memories about Armijo,” she said. “I will miss all of the fun activities that I got to do with my friends… I am going to miss all the big football games.”

For Barunda, being part of Leadership was a key to making memories. “That involves me in practically everything going on on campus,” she said. “We only get to experience high school once so take advantage of the opportunities and cherish the genuine friendships… involve yourself in as much as you can because the time we spend in high school goes by a lot faster than we think and we don’t get do-overs.”

If she could have a do-over, she said that she would want to change the off-campus lunch policy “because school food isn’t the most delicious thing in the world.”

In June, Barunda hopes to go to U.C. Davis and major in the medical field, with the goal of becoming a pediatric nurse. Her hobbies include doing hair and make-up, working on cars and taking pictures.

Barunda has an older brother, Jared, who is 23. She sees her grandmother as her role model.
