All in a Name

Miyonet is quite an unusual name, but it isn’t the only one in her family. “Some interesting names in my family are my siblings. My younger sister is named Arwyn and my older brother’s name is Yanni,” said Miyonet Snowden-Zerba. “I also have a younger brother named Langston.” She also has a cousin named Serenity, who will attend Armijo in the fall.

I got my last name from both my mother’s last name (Snowden) and my father’s last name (Zerba). The history of the Snowden name is very complicated and in some way was derived from Lord Snowdon, who gave his name to my ancestors but are not related. I do not know the history of the Zerba name.”

Most people say that my last name is very interesting and pronounce it a few times. Some also end up calling me just by my last name, Snowden, when talking to me,” she said. “Some people say they think of a literal snow den and some mistake the second half as Zebra instead of ZerbaMy name gives me my uniqueness, my personality and already is great,” she said

On campus, she has been part of Armijo’s golf team and an officer in Art Club. She has also participated in Stitchers’ Club, Key Club and College and Career Club as well as a Board Game Club. For sports, I usually play tennis or volleyball with my family. Other activities I do are draw/paint, post them online, and I edit videos in my spare time,” said Snowden-Zerba.

She plans to go to UC Davis when she graduates “because it is supposed to have a very good Veterinary studies program.” Her goal is to become a veterinarian or work in a very similar field.
