Video Game Review: Keeping Tempo

Video Game Review: Keeping Tempo

Rhythm Heaven, also known as “Rhythm Tengoku” in Japan, is a Nintendo DS game developed by Nintendo SPD. It is the second installment in the Rhythm Heaven series, following the Japan-only release on the Game Boy Advance of “Rhythm Tengoku” back in 2006. Rhythm Heaven DS is the first game in the series to be released in North America on April 5, 2009.

When I first played this game, I had picked it up from a local GameStop. If you thought Geometry Dash was hard, you’re in for a real treat with this game. The amount of hand-eye coordination you need to play this and actually pass a stage is pretty hefty. Rhythm Heaven made me want to throw my DS across the room in the midst of frustration and tears, but it is extremely satisfying once you get the hang of the mechanics.

The game itself is addictive, so no matter how angry you may get, you just want to keep playing. The soundtrack has enjoyable, original, catchy tunes and memorable characters such as The Chorus Kids, Dog Ninja, and Karate Joe. Rhythm Heaven is a wonderful game and I’d recommend it to those who love music as well as those who like a challenge.
