Coach Matthew Powell spends his mornings teaching Physical Education (PE), but he spends his afternoons coaching baseball. “I’ve played baseball since I was four years old,” he said. He played at Rodriguez High School and later at Sacramento State University. Because he loves the sport, he decided that coaching would be a good way to stay involved in it. “I wanted to give back to our schools and our community.”

For the past four years, he has served as a coach at Armijo. That involves staying after school for up to five hours a day and it isn’t just for the playing season. Try-outs start the first day after Christmas Break and games and conditioning go on through October.
