May 2018: All In A Name | Future Members of The Fred Society

The website for The Fred Society (https://thefredsociety.com/) claims to be “Making the World a Better Place for All Freds.” It’s not an easy name to have, but four Armijo students are making the most of it. While the four we feature could go by the nickname “Fred,” not a single one bears that as their actual name.

Fredrick Hinds said that he had met some of the other potential members of The Fred Society who are on campus, but he was not familiar with the online club. Hinds admitted that people made fun of his name, calling him “Freddy Krueger” or referencing the character from iCarly, Fredward.

Hinds is the only person in his family to attend Armijo as the rest went to Rodriguez. “I don’t know what to do after I graduate high school,” he said, although he is considering going to Universal Technical Institute (UTI).

Like Hinds, Fredy Lopez was not familiar with The Fred Society and gets called “Freddy Krueger,” but he also didn’t know any of the other candidates at Armijo. His brother graduated at Armijo but Lopez said that he doesn’t know what he wants to before graduating high school and he’s still figuring out what college he wants to go.

Freddy Duran only recently met other candidates for The Fred Society and, like them, he has had to deal with the nickname “Freddy Krueger.” He did remember meeting another Freddy when he was little. Duran has a younger brother at Sheldon and his sister, Diana, is a sophomore at Armijo. While Hinds and Lopez were unsure about their future plans, Duran is much more focused. “I want to be an architect,” he said. He’s not sure how he will be able to afford college, but he isn’t letting that get in the way of his dreams.

Frederick Jose is the fourth Frederick in his family. He spends half of his school day in elective classes – Woods, Photography and Welding balancing out English, History and Math. He was reluctant to answer questions so it is unclear whether he is familiar with The Fred Society. The only other potential candidate at Armijo is Alfredo Magana. The club is rather exclusive, after all.
