How to Build Good Habits

It’s perfectly normal to have a habit, but when you pick and choose your habits, it is best to choose good ones? Even though having habits is completely ordinary, the influence of a bad habit on you could be all wrong.

Unintentional habits are generally caused by different sources: stress, anxiety, boredom, and more. Nevertheless, whatever the source, a bad habit is still a bad habit, no matter the justification, therefore it’s smart to read and learn about the preventions.

No matter the habit, there is always a way to relieve those urges and tendencies to change the negative behavior into a positive one. One of the most common issues of attack is a “swear jar” or a fine jar. Whenever a person swears, smokes, bites at his or her nails, or practices any specified type of bad habit, the culprit leaves a specific sum of money, or whatever is in his or her pocket, in the jar. After a while, this may work because, well, the person with the bad habit won’t have money left! Sometimes the money collected can be designated for a particular purpose or reward. Although this may be a good solution for some, it isn’t the best attack for all.

To stop a faulty behavior, offenders may need to work slowly and find a plan of attack. Understanding what provokes the behavior may lead to a better understanding of how to end it. Some may be able to set reminders or keep a habit tracker. Habit trackers may be a useful tool because its shows patterns of behavior and progress as the frequency diminishes as.

Often, the cause of a habit is a stressful or bad environment that can encourage bad choices, creating a difficult challenge for changing behaviors and sometimes requires a change in environment. For instance, if someone wanted to stop an alcoholic pattern, they might have to stop spending time with others who drink.

Just ridding oneself of a bad habit is generally not enough. There are many good habits to replace bad habits. Reading, writing, eating healthily, staying hydrated or drinking tea are valuable habits that enrich life and lower stress. As students, there’s a lot of things that can complicate things: a social life, family matters, school work, growing up and learning. Everything and anything gives students the perfect reason to be stressed and exert bad habits, but one cannot let stress build. Good habits like exercising, talking through problems, keeping in contact with positive people, studying, and self-indulging when it’s appropriate are all key habits that are amazing and wonderful to have to prevent stress. Not only are these behaviors beneficial, but they can also be used to help a friend working through stress.

Designing an environment, avoiding triggers, and planning out the best outcomes to avoid stress can be beneficial and making self-care and self-growth a goal through good habits will help make 2018 a year to remember.
