The Fairfield Youth Commission held its monthly meeting on Monday, October 2. The Events Committee provided an update on its February 9 Valentine’s Celebration Movie Night, which will be held in Willow Hall at the Civic Center. The committee also discussed its upcoming meeting with City of Fairfield Transportation staff. The hope is that the City will be willing to provide discounted bus rates for youth.

The Empty Bowls Festival is coming to Fairfield on Saturday, October 14. The event will take place from 4-6 PM at the Solano Food Bank Warehouse, located at 2339 Courage Drive Fairfield. This is an educational event, where the Solano Food Bank will discuss how volunteers can step up and fight hunger in our own city. People who attend will be served soup and bread, in a hand-crafted bowl that they can keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.

The Fairfield Civic Center Library also has some upcoming events for youth. There is a Teen Writing program, offered October 29 through December 29, that will focus on poems, essays, and comics. The College Readiness for Teens program is scheduled October 11, October 29, and January 24 from 6-7 PM.

With 2018 approaching, the Youth Commission is talking about preparing a new Youth Needs Assessment Survey. For the first time, the Commission is considering preparing an online version of the assessment, which would then make it easier to analyze the results. If the Commission decides to prepare a new survey, each Committee will be responsible for coming up with 5-8 questions. Students interested in working on preparing the next Youth Needs Assessment survey can contact Meghan Sullivan at [email protected].
