Summer jobs – they are being discussed much more than normal as the school year comes to a close, but those jobs are usually temporary. For much of our life, we are asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” It’s not only high schoolers who are coming up with answers, even third graders have dreams about their futures

One third grade class was asked what they wanted to do for a living and the choices were as varied as the students. Being a professional athlete, whether in basketball, football, gymnastics, ballet, or something else, was a popular response. Children in elementary school occasionally have the opportunity to play outside, whether it’s during recess or physical education. Although jobs in sports received the most votes, the dreams varied.

Some of the students may have a lot of education in their future, choosing careers like health care, nursing, education, tech positions, astronauts, animal care, flying, and even the Air Force and other military destinations. There is still a lot of creativity among the third graders, with a few potential singers and actresses included. Several of the students, however, chose some unexpected goals, including starting their own small business, working from home, serving alcohol, modeling, and designing clothes.

There are numerous explanations for why students chose the careers they picked, such as the fact that they have looked up to their favorite teachers and aspired to be just like them, or they admired an athlete or performer on television. Even though the majority of us dislike going to the doctor’s office or still do, helping people – or animals – get better is a wonderful objective. Several TV programs promote careers and interests.

Even though it may not seem like it, elementary school students and high school students both discuss their future plans. We all just hope that, despite the fact that these ideas are subject to change over time, it’s always encouraging to see children so enthusiastic about their futures at such a young age.
