Fashion Focus – Hot styles for the hotter weather

Summer is approaching, and with summer, comes the warmth of the sun, bringing you hot new looks to wear.  Here are some of summer ideas to help you SEAS the day!

Summer Clothes

Summer clothes means dressing for the hot weather, and not over-layering. Veronica Rodriguez provides a great example. “I have been thinking [about how to dress for hot weather]!  Honestly, I would wear skirts, or tank tops, because, with the weather right now it’s pretty cold, but when summer approaches, I think shorts will be in.”

“What I would do [to stay comfortable in hot weather] is find baggy jeans and stuff you’re yourself in.  I wouldn’t say layer much, unless you’re layering linen pieces that are really breezy for weather.”

Kayla Ortega has a personal definition of style: chaotic. “For summer, long skirts!  I feel like summer it’s that time to have the flowiness of stuff!  Jean skirts are coming back, so I expect to see more of that around with little knitted leggings and stuff.  A lot of crop tops, or like sheer clothing, because it’s going to be so hot, along with bright colors as well.

“What am I going to wear?” Ortega said. “Maybe, like I said, jean skirts, jean tops, probably like a baggy tee and shorts.  And those knitted-hole sweaters, those as well.  You can put a tank top under it and shorts and sandals or shoes with it, like a skater-bummy look at it, too.”

“In the summer, I’m planning to wear jorts, flannels, and any oversized tee,” said Christian “Nex” Domondon, throwing a little insight into more masculine summer styles. “It’s definitely going to be really hot out, and I don’t like wearing skin-tight things. They make me feel awkward.  Oh and JNCO jeans for summer.  They’re like the ones I have right now, or maybe H&M shirts.”

Summer Trends

Kayla Ortega provides great example of a crochet pattern for summer.

One can wonder what’s going to trend or what is trending this summer 2023.  Rodriguez sees summer as an opportunity for beach-like clothes.  She said,  “The summer trends I’m looking for right now are mermaid-core, I’m also thinking about breezy clothes. I think boho pants are going to be in style. I think everybody is going to be comfortable this summer. Last year, I felt like it was simpler. Now, people are more interested in the ocean and the beach, and shorts are going to be in.  And for specific patterns?  I think crochet patterns are going to be in for summer.”

Summer Colors

Colors are also a way to define that you’re going for a summer look. “Colors great for summer are pink, anything really bright–orange, blue–vibrant colors,  not necessarily neutral colors, although I think those can be very beautiful for summer, too,” said Rodriguez. Here is a list of colors that are predicted to be hot in the warmer weather:

  • Pink
  • Orange
  • Purple
  • Green
  • Pastels
  • Neons

You may also want to avoid certain colors, “Don’t wear black for summer.  I’m trying not to wear black this time of year, like you know how the sun works?  The sun’s heat is most absorbed in the color black,” said Domondon.  “So usually more whites, anything that has bright colors.”

Add spice for your summer fits!

To spice up your fits, you may want to add jewelry for some bling!  There are some solutions for those don’t have the money to purchase new jewelry, but still want some. “I’ve seen many girls DIY their own jewelry, and they put fake flowers here.  I would also say body jewelry is in too–so like anything gold or anything that really reflects the sun,” Rodriguez said.

Ortega likes extravagant pieces for summer.  “I love it when people wear dangly earrings, pearls-not like real pearls, rings, chunky bracelets, or like thin gold, silver, especially gold.  Gold is like the representation of summer, it shines and stuff.  For shoes, I love it when people wear loafers, sandals, Birkenstocks, or like those chunky platform sandals.”

“For summer, don’t wear any accessories that are going to be heavy.  No metal, cause then it’ll warm up fast,” Domondon said.

Aside from jewelry, you can also spice up your fit with a hairdo.  Ortega said, “Hair up for summer! Pigtails, space buns, half-up half-down, those are the best things.  Especially during summer, I feel like that’s the best time to get a haircut!  Because it’s going to be so hot, get a cute, short little haircut.”

Last notes

“I get my inspiration from people I see every day,” said Ortega, “my friends, Instagram, and people I follow. I feel like the people we surround ourselves with, the people we just walk by, are the inspirations to many things.

“I think summer/hot weather fashion is a way for people to express themselves, especially in the heat, but sometimes people can see it as a negative situation., thinking things like ‘Why would girls wear this and that and this and that?’

Ortega went on to express some wise advice: As it gets hotter in the upcoming months, fashion is an amazing way for people to express themselves, but also how they respond to others. There are going to be different types of bodies and different types of clothing on different types of people, “so be considerate of others and not burst people’s bubbles.”
