Miranda is not an uncommon name. At Armijo, there are several girls who share the first name (Miranda Meyer, Miranda Mojica, Miranda Ortega and Miranda Rodriguez), but if most of these young ladies are like Rodriguez, they don’t necessarily know about another place their name shows up.

“I was not aware that my name was the name of one of the moons around Uranus,” said Rodriguez. “I think it is interesting and I am definitely going to tell people that!”

When she was in middle school, she knew two other girls named Miranda, but doesn’t know the others at Armijo yet.

“My mother chose my name from an actress from a soap opera she watched while she was pregnant with me and once she heard the name, she knew she wanted to name me it,” said Rodriguez. Even now, people often compare her name with same-name celebrities like actress Miranda Cosgrove and YouTuber Miranda Sings.

Rodriguez doesn’t have the only name in her family that is somewhat unusual. “My Dad and one of my brothers are both named Sixto and I have never met another person with that name,” she said. “My sister’s name is Ximena but the name used to be less common now I see the name more often.” Ximena graduated from Armijo in 2021, making a name for herself as a full International Baccalaureate (IB) student and a varsity soccer player for four years.

Like her sister, Rodriguez has played varsity soccer for Armijo since she was a freshman, and she also plays for Surf Solano DPL team.

“I do plan on going to college to study biology or engineering, hopefully at UC Davis,” she said. “Since I do not yet know what path I want to take career wise, I know I want a job that I genuinely enjoy and worked hard to earn.”
