Armijo scored big in their second meet.

Track season is officially underway as the Royals completed the second League meet on Wednesday, March 8, which was a Quad meet with Armijo, Rodriguez, Vanden, and Fairfield in attendance. Track is a crazy sport with tons of events and athletes, and four divisions of athletes, so Coach Pence did his best to share the highlights.

The girl sprinters went all out this meet, with the team of Cierra Kinsey, Anisteicia Kinsey, A’Jah Parks, and Sanai Wilson winning the 4x100m by almost four seconds over the rest of the field. Ani Kinsey, Wilson and Parks came back and went 2, 3, 4 respectively in the 100 meters, before Cierra Kinsey, Ani Kinsey, and Wilson all came back and scored points for Armijo in the 200! Cierra Kinsey also won the 400 meters, so it was a busy day for the Varsity sprint squad!

On the distance side, Lilian Luu placed second in the 800 meters and 4th in the mile, while Grace Mercado placed second in both the Shot Put and Discuss. They led Armijo to second place in the meet, falling only to Vanden and beating the Rodriguez girls for the second time this season. (The Royals went against them the previous week and beat them in both girls’ divisions)

For the boys it was a bit rougher. Evan Wrotham was the standout performer, winning the 400 meters, placing 5th in the 200 meters and helping the 4×100 meter team take second place. In distance Hisael Flores just missed breaking the five-minute barrier in the mile, coming home 3rd in 5:01.28 and in the throws Jordan Brown took second in the discus with a throw of 128 feet (28 feet further than last week) and 4th in the shot put.
