Adrien York Thrives in Track Program

Adrien York is a very talented and hard working runner at Armijo High. She has excelled in Cross Country

and Track and Field for all of her high school years, now finishing it out as a Senior. Inevitability, with all those miles she’s bound to create meaningful friendships and great memories. Adrien comments on some of her favorite memories, “Even though qualifying for state was the best moment of my track career, my favorite moments were honestly just moments of hanging out with teammates during meets and going out to eat afterwards. I know that’s really cheesy, though.”

Regardless of how much fun hanging out with her teammates is, she knows the work has to get done. Adrien mentions her top goals, “My goals for this track season are definitely to PR in all of my events since last year I was injured and missed out on most of season. I also want to go back to State!  Adrien runs the mile (1600 meter) , the 800 meter, and the 400 meter. Recently Adrien went to the South Pasadena Tiger Invitational and received first place in the 4×400 meter relay with her teammates. She finds herself inspired daily by her teammates and other successful runners. Adrien exclaims, “My biggest inspirations for running are some of my favorite professional runners, such as Brenda Martinez, Sanya Richards-Ross (who is now retired), and Evan Jaeger, but I’m also inspired by some of my teammates and running crushes like Michael Vernau from Davis.”

Even with all the motivation and inspiring people in her life, York had to get used to a different atmosphere

this past Cross country season and Track season with a new coach. Adrien admits, "Without a doubt, this

season is different from the rest. Coach Monk was such a big part of everyone's lives and especially mine as

an 800 runner that the transition to not having him around was and is very difficult. The team is separated in a

lot of aspects now, but when we go to meets where we're all more or less forced to spend time with each other,

it gives me the same feeling of warmth that it always has."

Adrien has overcome much adversity and differences throughout her inspirations and herself. Come and

support Adrien York at the next Armijo Track meet and see how amazing she truly is before she graduates!
