Skills keep improving for both the Junior Varsity (pictured) and Varsity teams.

Varsity: The Royals saw a big shuffle in their lineup against Vanden on Tuesday, February 7, due to injuries and illness, but the boys stepped up to the plate. Two Junior Varsity players — Ameer Ghanem and Isaac Aguirre — were called in to assist and they were a big help.

Vanden played a great strong game and held Armijo off until the last seven minutes. Aquirre sent in a perfect ball to Edwing Saucedo Pacheco who tapped the ball in for the Royals’ first goal of the night. About five minutes later, with a foul to one of Armijo’s players in the box, Dawson Le stepped up to take the PK and sank it into the far corner to leave the Royals at 2-0 for the first half.

Armijo saw some more plays in the second half by Esteban Carcamo and David Hernandez, but they weren’t able to get by the Vanden defense to score anymore goals. Captain Jackson Harrington was able to hold off all shot attempts made by Vanden to finish the night at a shutout.

The Royals finish league play this Thursday, February 9, at Fairfield High School and then are off to Playoffs next week.

Junior Varsity (JV): Armijo was going into their second to last game looking to continue the momentum. The Royals were able to get the first goal after Ricky Brambila took a great shot from inside the box. Moments later Anthony Soto was able to score after a couple rebounds to make it 2-0.

Artemio Perez closed the half off with a goal to make it 3-0.

Goalkeeper Abraham Martinez was able to keep a clean sheet with a great save in a 1v1.

In the second half, both teams battled for opportunities. Fabian Silva was able to score from distance and end the game 4-0.
