Rico Chan decided to play golf because he wanted to do something active after school. He started playing for the Armijo team in his junior year and decided to just keep playing. “I played in a tournament at the end of the season and our team got 5th place out of 6th,” he said. 

Although he took it up as something to do in his free time, he would encourage other students to consider golf, or any sport, to learn life lessons. “My advice would be to just try your best and work on the things you need to fix so you can overcome them,” he said.

One never knows what might happen on the golf course. “The most memorable meet I had was with Steph Curry,” Chan said. “I couldn’t remember when, but it was a long time ago. At the end of the game, he was on his way to the locker room and he gave me a high five.”

Besides golf, Chan is also involved in the Multimedia Academy. “This program is about Photoshop and filming,” he said. He plans to use these skills upon graduation with the intent to study either computer science or film.

He considers his older sister Regina (Class of ’18) his role model. She is currently enrolled at Sacramento State. “She taught me a lot and helped me throughout my life,” he said. 

Golf isn’t the only thing that Chan uses to fill his free time. He also enjoys playing video games, watching anime, working out, cooking, and playing with his dog.
