Armijo football left Week #2 with a pair of impressive wins on both the Varsity and JV levels, bringing each team’s record to 1-1.

At the varsity level, the Royals dominated all three facets of the game: offense, defense, and special teams, leading to a 54-6 victory. Offensively, quarterback Willie Nickson threw four TDs, caught by senior Kaiba Washington (two), sophomore Michael Ferro, and junior Evan Wortham. Junior tight end Jordan Brown also caught an impressive 41-yard toss downfield.

Sophomore Markel Hazzard (two) and junior Tre Henderson punched in scores on the ground. Washington also returned a kick-off for a touchdown.

Defensively, Florin was held to under 50 yards of offense and 15 different Royals recorded a tackle. Junior lineman Jericho Johnson stood out with eight tackles, five for loss, two sacks, and a fumble recovery. Senior Jeremiah Oliver and junior Jayden Butcher recorded interceptions, while juniors Dae Sparks and Julian Soto also recovered fumbles.

Due to scheduling issues, JV had to drive to a second consecutive road game in Sacramento, this time to Center High. Despite being down five lineman and trailing in the game, the Royals came back to grab the victory 21-14.

Come to our home game this week against a 2021 playoff team, Dixon High. JV kicks off at 5:15 pm
