Once again, senior Fayola Fasuyi has had her work winning first prize for local division of the Congressional High School Art Contest, just one of many accomplishments for the year.

Last year, Fayusi’s “Heroes Like Me” placed first in the Congressional High School Art Competition hosted by Congressman John Garamendi (https://the-armijo-signal.com/24591/news/beyond/fairfield-teens-art-to-be-displayed-at-u-s-capitol/). This year she did it again with “Gaze of a Black Experience.”

“This competition is a team effort. Our panel of independent judges performed the tough task of narrowing down the winners. Teachers, parents and mentors worked behind the scenes to offer encouragement, advice and inspiration. And most importantly, these students kenw they were artists and photographers with something important to say,” Congressman Garamendi said in a prepared statement shared with The Daily Republic in a May 6 article. “Congratulation to everyone who participated in this year’s Congressional High School Art Contest.”

In addition to leading the field for the art contest this year, Fayusi also serves as the Vice President of both Armijo’s Black Student Union and Art with a Purpose clubs and runs track as a distance runner.
