Speed and agility found to break personal bests!

March 18 and 19, the Armijo Track team split up and competed at two different invitationals. The distance runners traveled to Dublin High School (along with 149 other teams) for the Dublin Distance Fiesta while the sprinters went to Pittsburh for the Eddie Hart Invitational.

At the Distance Fiesta, the Royals had a bunch of fantastic results spread out over the two days. Almost all of Armijo’s distance runners ran new personal bests. Senior Fayola Fasuyi even took nine seconds off her mile time and improved to 7:02. Not bad for a first year runner!

The highlight of the day was Lilian Luu who ran personal bests in both the mile and 800m, improving by 10 seconds in the mile to go 5:35 and taking three seconds off her 800m in terrible conditions to run 2:33. Both of these times please her inside the top 20 of division 3 and we still have so much time to improve!

At Eddie Hart, the Armijo sprinters continued to put in strong work with Cierra Kinsey and Egypt Hughes placing in the top 10 of the 100m. The highlight of the day there, however, was the girls’ 4x200m race. The team of Egypt Hughes, Cierra Kinsey, Anisteicia Kinsey, and Sanai Wilson took second in 1:49.8, missing the school record in that event by less than a second!

It was a fantastic weekend for the Royals and they hope to continue to build on this with the meet on Wednesday, March 23, versus Vanden before getting a much needed bye week.

Please congratulate any athletes who competed this weekend as they are putting in great work and seeing results.
