Weir student body celebrates 100 days of school

Kindergartener Brooklyn Brooks

Fairfield, CA – On Tuesday, February 2, students and teachers at David A. Weir Preparatory Academy celebrated the 100th day of school by dressing up as their 100-year old selves.

Staff adorned in gray hair and grandparental clothing were supported by an array of canes and walkers as they greeted students outside. Students also participated in the festivities with their own costumes to commemorate the milestone. When kindergarten student Brooklyn Brooks was asked how old she was, she responded, “six,” shortly before remembering the occasion and exclaiming, “Oh! I am 100 today!”

“We have always celebrated the 100th day of school with student activities,” explained Weir Principal Allison Guernsey. Guernsey continued, “This is the first time we have had staff dress up and commit to the theme of 100. As today is also Global Day of Play, we will incorporate some bingo to tie it all together!”

Global Day of Play is a movement that focuses on bringing awareness to the importance of unstructured play for students in schools around the world. Over a million students from 75+ nations on six continents participate in Global Day of Play.
