The Royals have their eyes on the prize and on the goal.

Varsity: A strong show by both teams on Wednesday, January 19, and some great work by both of Armijo’s keepers. The boys played well and moved the ball around Fairfield, earning their first goal off a great run and shot by Sophmore outside defender Angel Murillo Padilla at the 20-minute mark.

Not to be outdone, the Royals’ offense picked it up and seven minutes later Junior wing Abraham Perez sunk in a goal of his own.

Fairfield had it their own and held Armijo off from making any more goals for the half, but the Royals came back strong, wanting to get more goals in the net. Five minutes into the second half, Perez was able to sink in another goal off a rebound. Armijo pushed hard and got several more shots off, but, with a solid Keeper and some great defensive work by the Falcons, they held the Royals off.

Armijo ended the game with the 3-0 win, giving senior Keeper Jonathon Harrington his first shut out win. It was a great win for the Royals and, with results from other games played that night, it looks like league could be back in their sight.

Junior Varsity (JV): The Armijo boys started without two starting defenders on Wednesday, January 19, and had to make a few adjustments to the lineup. Fairfield was able to score after a goal from an Armijo defender.

Armijo kept the pressure on right after they conceded the goal and scored two goals within two minutes by Alonzo Soria and Edwing Pacheco.

It was 2-1 into the half and the boys had the momentum. In the second half, Fairfield was able to get another to make it 2-2 after a mistake in the Armijo defense. A few injuries picked up and Armijo’s momentum dropped but kept pushing Fairfield away from the goal. The match ended in a tie and the boys kept working for Friday, January 21.

The Royals took on Rodríguez that Friday at home for their first A-team game!
