It was an exciting game for both teams.

Varsity: On Wednesday, January 12, Armijo came out strong and with some quick movement right at kick off Junior Abraham Perez Ascencio was able to sink a shot off a pass from Junior Diego Torres in the very first minute to start things off right.

The Will C. Wood Wildcats picked up from there and started to make some great movements of their own and transitions that pushed them into our defensive zone and they were able to get a goal of their own at about the halfway mark. The game was half finished with a lot of back and forth by both teams and several close calls, but the score was held at 1 to 1.

Coach Flores had a solid conversation with the team on what they needed to fix and how to counteract Wood’s key players and there was some great input by both coaching staff and players. The Royals came back into the second half ready to get into the offensive third and hold but so was Wood.

After a lot of back and forth and some great saves by senior keeper Jonathon Harrington, Armijo was able to get another goal. Wood fouled one of the Royals on the 25-yard line and senior Andy Diaz was able to drop the kick in straight over the keepers head to get Armijo to 2-1  with 16 minutes left in the game.

The Royals kept up the pressure and had a few more close calls for more goals and some more great saves and blocks by their keeper to hold the score.

This was a great game by both teams and with strong play, fast ball movement and some great work by the keepers to stop some solid shots. Coach Flores looks forward to the next match up on Friday, January 14, against last year’s league champion Vacaville High.

Junior Varsity (JV): The boys started the game at a fast pace and keeping possession. In the first five minutes, Edwing Pacheco scored a right-footed shot inside the box to make it 1-0. Wood played rough but Armijo was able to maintain calm. The boys were able to get another goal in after Dawson Le took a free kick and a Wood defender head it into his own goal to make it 2-0.

Before the half ended, an accidental handball gave Wood a penalty, on which they scored to make it 2-1.

The second half was back and forth , but defender Jason Kudsk was able to hold it down and goalkeeper Abraham Martinez had good saves.
