FAIRFIELD, CA – Dan O. Root II Health and Wellness Academy was awarded a $711 Project A-Game grant at the grand opening of the 7-Eleven store located at 301 Walters Road in Suisun City. The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) K-8 school plans to use this grant money to revitalize its school garden.

Project A-Game is a community outreach program created by 7-Eleven Corporate to provide meaningful youth development opportunities through education and play. Since its inception, 7-Eleven and its franchisees have awarded more than 4,800 grants ensuring children have the resources and inspiration they need to stay in school.

“During the time of distance learning due to Covid-19, our garden was neglected and became overgrown with weeds,” stated Julie Reece, Principal of Dan O Root II Health and Wellness Academy. “We are so excited to have meaningful in-person lessons with our population of approximately 700 students and work in our garden again.” A revitalized garden means that kindergarten through 8th-grade students will have the opportunity to plant seasonal fruits and vegetables in the garden. In alignment with the school’s health and wellness theme, students will learn about the plant life cycle and the nutritional benefits of growing their food.
