The Last Jedi is the eighth movie from the Star Wars saga released.  It came out in theaters December 15, 2017.

It is a part of the Sequel Trilogy from 2015 to 2019, following the first two trilogies: he Original Trilogy from 1977 to 1983, and the Prequel Trilogy from 1999 to 2005.  The Last Jedi is the second movie in its trilogy.

The film was written and directed by Rian Johnson, produced by Lucasfilms, and then distributed to Walt Disney. In October of 2012, George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, sold his production company to Walt Disney.  Disney announced that there would be a new trilogy of Stars Wars films, which would contain The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker.

Johnson began writing The Last Jedi in 2014, a year before The Force Awakens was released.  He had his story group watch older films for inspiration on the movie. There was also a lot of filming issues, as it kept getting delayed (uproxx.com). John Williams continued to be involved with the Star Wars empire by conducting the music for the soundtrack.

The story begins right after The Force Awakens, and ends with Luke Skywalker’s death and Rey saving the remaining Resistance. The Rise Of Skywalker would take place after this, but with a small timeskip rather than being immediately after, like the first two movies in this trilogy.

According to Wikipedia, the movie grossed $620.2 million in Canada and The United States, and $712.5 million in other parts of the world, making the worldwide total $1.333 billion, the movies budget being $317 million. However, this movie was given mixed responses.  It has a 2.4 on the audience rating summary and 68% liked by Google users.  Despite what the fans have said about this movie, critics seemed to have loved it.  It has a ⅘ on Common Sense media, 7.7/10 on IMDb, and a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Like all the Star Wars films, The Last Jedi is available on Disney+ and can be bought on many other streaming sites, starting at $3.99 on Google Play and Apple TV.  Otherwise, it can be watched for free with either a subscription or premium subscription to a site, or free with cable TV on TNT and TBS.
