For 127 years, Fenton’s Creamery has been making ice cream by hand and making visits unforgettable. It is a perfect place to eat old fashion ice cream on a warm afternoon. The first Fenton’s Creamery was located on 41st and Howe Street in Oakland in 1894. For generations, this family-owned business has handcrafted ice cream in a variety of flavors. Fenton’s also runs a restaurant, featuring burgers, sandwiches and fries.

In 2007, a second location was opened in the Nut Tree Shopping Center at 1669 E. Monte Vista Avenue in Vacaville. According to Wikipedia, Fenton’s Creamery was referenced in Pixar’s 2009 animated film Up.. I visited the Vacaville location to sample the menu for myself. The burger reminded me of that grilled taste from a barbecue.

It was a good and satisfying burger, but the fries were pretty ordinary. Not bad, but not great, either. I really wanted to find out what this old-fashioned handmade ice cream is all about, so I ordered a sundae with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, nuts and whipped cream, with a cherry on top. When the sundae arrived in a classic glass cup, the fudge was dripping and I couldn’t wait to take a taste. Every bite was sweet goodness. The ice cream was rich and creamy.

The whipped cream was freshly whipped. For me, the sundae lived up to the hype. The staff is great, very nice and their manners were spot on, which made the visit even more pleasant. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere. There are photos of the restaurant from a long ago and the awards they have won. Everything is comfortable , nice tables with cushioned benches and metal seats The strength of the menu is their ice cream. It’s handmade, looks good and tastes as it looks. If you want to eat real good ice cream, then head over to Fenton’s Creamery to try out one of their many flavors, of milkshakes and sundaes. You won’t be disappointed.
