Suisun residents can demonstrate leadership skills.

Mayor Lori Wilson is announcing the creation of the Suisun City Mayor’s Youth Roundtable (MYR).

The MYR is being created to engage youth at all levels in city governance and provide advice to the City Council on issues impacting youth. The application period will be from 9 am Monday, March 22 to 5 pm on Friday,
April 16. Applications are available at http://www.Suisun.com or by emailing [email protected].

Carmen Perry has volunteered to be the Mayor’s Community Youth Engagement Advisor. The Inaugural
Meeting will be Saturday, May 15 from 10 am to 2 pm and will include presentations on the Environment,
Financial Literacy, and broad discussion on Youth Engagement Planning for Fiscal Year 2021-2022.

Youth involved in MYR will participate in youth-centric discussions surrounding civic engagement, city governance, and developing or having influence on policies impacting youth. Youth participants must be residents of Suisun City and in the 6th through 12th grade (ages 12-19). Youth participants are selected on an annual basis to participate in four (4) roundtable discussions and engage in civic activities.

Annual participation is from September to June and the next application period will open in late July.

MYR will engage local community partners from businesses to nonprofits, as well as seek to engage and invest in
Suisun City Youth beyond those directly participating in MYR. Mayor Wilson stated, “It has been my strongest desire ever since joining the Council to have youth involved in a meaningful way. This is our first step to bringing us closer to having an official Youth Commission on par with our other Commissions. I look forward to seeing how our community progresses with Youth Leaders now at the table.”

According to Ms. Perry, “I’ve lived in Suisun City for 35 years and I am excited about what we are getting ready to do with Youth in our Community. It is time! Our Youth have a voice and it is time for us to hear what they have to say. They are eventually who we are and they need to be involved in strengthening our community.”
