From movie to magical in one move

CD Review – Birds of Prey soundtrack

Featuring famous female artists such as Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Saweetie, Normani, and Adona, Birds of Prey, the Album includes 15 songs from the hit movie Birds of Prey.

The first song, Boss B***h by Doja Cat, conveys an empowering message for women to be independent and to know they are perfect and beautiful. This song fits perfectly for the role of Harley Quinn because she had recently broke up with her ex-boyfriend, The Joker. The catchy verse, “I’m a b***h and a boss and I shine like gloss,” sets the tone for the whole soundtrack and starts the album with a lot of energy.

The anticipated collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion and Normani, Diamonds adds to the message and addresses to women that they do not need a romantic relationship to keep them happy. The chorus “Diamonds are girl’s best friend” conveys that being financially stable and not relying on anyone can be more important than worrying about a guy who can bring you temporary happiness and love.

Many women have been treated badly when it comes to romantic relationships and have the mindset that they need to just focus on themselves and grow independently. The theme of women empowerment continues with Sway With Me as Saweetie and Galxara upgrade the original 1950’s version by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra into a 2020 hit.

To close the soundtrack, Adona’s cover of Hit Me With Your Best Shot by Pat Benatar gives off a very haunting tone but it is also smooth and angelic with its rhythm. This song perfectly fits the conclusion of the movie as it tones down the chaos when Harley Quinn is up against her worst enemy.

All the women on this soundtrack are dominant artists in the music industry and each adds a vital piece to the theme and overall tone of the soundtrack and movie: girl power, independence, and individuality, which perfectly represents Harley Quinn throughout the movie Birds of Prey.
