Q: How long have you been teaching Armijo?  What do you teach? What else have you taught at AHS?

A: I have taught at Armijo for 15 years. This year I am teaching Math 1, Math 2, ChemEarth and Life Skills. I have also taught English and History.

Q: How has COVID-19 affected your teaching?

A: COVID-19 has challenged me to learn more about technology and engage students in the lesson, using more than just whiteboards, paper and hands-on manipulatives.

Q: Where did you go to high school? Where did you go to college? Who influenced you when you were a student?

A: I went to Will C Wood, Solano Community College, UC Davis and Chapman University. My parents influenced me as a child and encouraged me to always do my best, believe in myself and be the person I can be.

Q: Besides teaching what have you done for work?

A: Before being a Special Education teacher, I was a paraprofessional in another county, working with preschoolers. While in college, I worked at an after-school program in an elementary school.

Q: Why did you become a teacher?

A: While attending college I interned in several different occupations including Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and teaching in the preschool setting and middle school setting. I decided to pursue teaching in the high school setting because I liked seeing students progress in all areas, grow in their academics and pursue their goals after high school.

Q: What advice would you give to students considering going into teaching?

A: I would advise students to volunteer or intern with multiple grade levels and subjects to find which area really peaks their interest and where they feel they can make an impact with students.

Q: What are your hobbies? What else do you do for fun?

A: I enjoy water sports and snow sports. I really enjoy wakeboarding and waterskiing with my family. During the summer I spend time camping, going to the beach and water parks.
