While most people don’t set out to become a role model for others, there are some who do, or at least take advantage of the opportunities offered and, as a result, find that others admire them for their courage and service.
One of the ways to do this is to become part of the Solano County Sheriff’s Cadet Program as a Law Enforcement Cadet. Candidates who are 14 – 20 years old and have a 2.0+ grade point average can do this if they pass a background check and attend monthly meetings, training events and emergency callouts. “If you are interested in a career in Public Safety, the Solano County Sheriff’s Cadet Program will help build the necessary skills and experience for these fields,” states the Solano County website at https://t.ly/VLyw.
Participants in the program will learn a variety of skills to save lives and to protect the community. A volunteer application and more information can be found at the website.
Another option to becoming a role model for others is to join the Police Explorers Program. “A Police Explorer is a volunteer resource for the Fairfield Police Department. Each Police Explorer is additional personnel for the department’s many successful crime prevention and community service projects and displays. Every Explorer is a representative of our community’s youth,” the website for the city of Fairfield states (https://t.ly/rKvo).
This program prepares young people with police experience and knowledge of the relationship between citizens and police, while helping them participate in community events, fundraising and recreational activities.
“Police Explorers participate in the Police Department with Neighborhood Watch, Quality Neighborhoods Team, assisting Communications, and Patrol Divisions. Qualified Explorers may ride along with Patrol Officers during patrol shifts,” says the webpage. “Explorers also participate in Police Explorer patrol shifts in teams of two. The department has several marked Explorer patrol vehicle for duty use.”
Students interested in pursuing this hobby as a method to become a role model should contact Officer Ledford at (707) 580-1032.
