Far from Home: Riyas Khan

It is hard to abandon the place where you knew and loved. You have to leave behind all the people you knew, the places you used to hang out at with your friends and family, and the house that stored all the memories of your childhood.

On April 2016, Riyas Khan and his family flew from India to the land of the free and home of the brave and currently attends Armijo High School. As he goes about his high school life, he meets the teachers and other students of Armijo that makes him feel welcomed. Of course, he doesn’t forget his interest from India. Khan is involved in cricket, which is the most popular sport in India, and favors Tamil pop (a type of music popular in India). At the same time, he is thinking about his future. Khan mentions that after he graduates, he wants to study business. Although the future is uncertain, working towards a goal will open up countless paths that one can pursue to experience and learn first hand. Because of his move from India, he is already opened to a different culture that allows him to develop his perspective of the world and of himself.
