(Fairfield) (CA), (April 10, 2020) – Superintendent Kris Corey announced last night during the meeting of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District’s Governing Board, that FSUSD will continue distance learning for students through the end of the 2019-2020 school year.

“I had hoped we would be able to allow students to come back to their schools in person during the last week or two of the school calendar, since our school year ends on June 12th, a bit later than most districts. This would have been a wonderful opportunity for students to reconnect and celebrate some of their school’s end-of-year activities. Unfortunately, it seems this won’t be possible,” Superintendent Corey stated.

Distance learning activities have been paused, temporarily, during the regularly scheduled Spring Break, April 10 through April 17. Distance learning will resume on April 20. The District will be providing additional information at that time regarding grades and course completion.

High school graduation ceremonies will be either virtualized or postponed to a date when it is safe to conduct them in person. Details regarding future graduation plans will be released as the situation with COVID-19 evolves. The Governing Board approved staff’s recommendation to temporarily suspend some graduation requirements. Information about senior graduation requirements can be found in the “Virtual Meeting for High School Seniors and Parents” section of the district website at https://fsusd.org/covid19.

Parents can assist students through this challenging time by:

– Accessing learning resources on the district website at https://fsusd.org/covid19

– Fostering close, positive, and collaborative communication with their child’s teacher

– Asking their teacher for help when they need it

– Encouraging their student each day

– Establishing a regular schedule and routine for schooling

– Creating opportunities to have fun with their student while learning through activities, games, simple science experiments, coding, art, and more

The FSUSD School Board expressed appreciation for Superintendent Corey’s leadership, the staff’s hard work, and parents’ patience during this time. Members of the board stressed their desire that all students and parents remain closely connected to their schools through regular communication with their teachers and principals. Contact information for principals can be found on the district website under the “Our Schools” menu at https://fsusd.org.
