Wondering what it’s like working at a frozen yogurt shop? Lizeth Avalos and Karina Sisi know the whole process.

When they applied for the position at TuttiMelon and got called in for the interviews, they both easily got the job. According to the girls, the hardest questions they were asked were the personal ones like “Tell us a little bit about yourself” or “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”

They share a lot of the same responsibilities as other people in the store: changing the yogurt and toppings, operating the cash register, cutting up fruit, and constantly cleaning.

Karina (top) and Lizeth share the responsibility of making hungry people happier.

Balancing school and work is fairly easy for the both of them. TuttiMelon has a very flexible schedule, especially because the busiest days are the weekend.

The girls agreed that there’s nothing truly bad about the job. The worst thing, Avalos and Sisi agreed, is how busy it really gets. The space is very small so workers can become overwhelmed and stressed fairly easily. It’s important to stay quick and efficient, also always focus on good customer service.

TuttiMelon pays minimum wage, but both girls are content with their regular paycheck. They both have enough money to save and to spend.

Both girls have dreams of a future that goes beyond TuttiMelon. Sisi, for instance, plans to go to college and wants to be a teacher, like her mother, Ms. Vanessa Walling-Sisi. “I probably will keep a small job like this while going to school, but I may have substitute jobs,” she said.

Avalos also enjoys working at TuttiMelon. She enjoys working with Sisi and the other staff members. Discounts on sweet treats are just an added perk.
