The Color of You is an R&B / Soul CD by Alina Baraz, released on April 6, 2018.

When Alina Baraz released the album, she was 24-years old. “I use the songs as a mirror to reflect on the mistakes I have made throughout my relationship journey and getting over heartbreak,” she explained in an interview, “Some of the greatest things that I’ve accomplished came after heartbreak, so as much as the world collapsing and everything seems terrible, the greatest things come when you just take the next step from that heartbreak.”

Alina Baraz said, “This album came from me trying to capture the moment someone or something coming into your life, and you don’t really know what it is, I don’t have anything to compare it to, so to me, I look at that person as a color that didn’t exist and it’s me trying to define what exactly that is and what that color is…My one goal (On The Color of You) was to just make music purely out of expression and not because someone is expecting me to make something.”

This album is different from Urban Flora, another album by Alina Baraz. Urban Flora has a more of Electronic/Dance music mixed with R&B. My favorite songs on The Color of You are Electric, featuring Khalid, and I Don’t Even Know Why Though.

My sister Christina recommended I listen to Alina Baraz’s song called Floating, featuring Khalid.  “I love it. I think it’s about personal intimacy, she’s writing about coming back to herself and her senses,” she said. “She talked about being gone like she lost herself and she struggled but she’s back. I love the word choices in her song Coming to My Senses. She says how she’s been ‘trying to paint a picture in my mind, you’re a color that don’t exist. What are you?’ It’s like she’s talking to herself and realizing that she is not only unique but how she’s coming back to knowing this about herself.”

“I love the beat of the music she sings, I’d listen to it if I was sad and it’d probably make me happy,” said Lillian Baxter.

Are you ready to join the ranks of Alina Baraz’s friends? You will be after you listen to The Color of You.
