Super Bowl thrills some but disappoints many locals

“Were you living under a rock?” asked one of the more popular Super Bowl commercials, spotlighting Reese’s candy. The same might be asked of a person who was completely oblivious to the airing of Super Bowl LIV on Sunday, February 2, between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

This year’s game was held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, and although the 49ers had a 10 point lead in the 3rd quarter, they lost 20-31.

The audience at the stadium, and in living rooms and other venues around the country, reacted favorably to Demi Lovato singing the National Anthem and most reviews of the halftime show with Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Bad Bunny, and J Blavin were positive as well. They sang their most popular songs for the performance and danced with an energized crew on stage.

Many students and staff at Armijo were hoping for a local win. Jose Lopez said, “I think that the 49ers will win because they have been winning all the games recently.”

“I really want the 49ers to win because they have been my family’s favorite team since I was little,” said Jennifer Ochoa. But it was not to be.

There were some questionable plays, as there always are during the Super Bowl, and some disappointed fans, but there is always next year to focus on and a chance at Super Bowl 2050.
