Ms. Sherrie Sanders has been teaching Special Education students at Armijo since August, but has been working for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) for six years. “My experience working here has been fun,” she said. “I originally planned to be a preschool teacher so I focused a lot of time and energy on preschool and took a lot of extra classes…I like working with these kids. I feel like I might be making a difference.

“Surprisingly, I really like being with older kids. I was a substitute for two years and never even subbed for high school, because I was never ever going to teach high school,” she said. But that changed. Now she loves the energy found on the campus with homecoming skits, watching her students play sports and even doing extra duty time. “I could see myself retiring at this school,” she said.

As a person, Ms. Sanders described herself as loyal, giving and trustworthy. “I like to do service for others and I like to see other people happy,” she said.

When she is not in the classroom, she likes to spend time babysitting her new grandbaby and making  DIY projects.

Ms. Sanders graduated from Ashford University and got much of her education through their online courses. She did all of this while working at a full-time job and raising three children. It took five years for her to accomplish her goal.

In addition to completing her first year at Armijo, Ms. Sander’s New Year’s resolution is to be healthier, happier and the best role model she can be.
