The true meaning of Christmas varies from family to family.

The main purpose of celebrating Christmas is to recognize the birth of Jesus Christ about 2000 years ago. Millions of people celebrate the holiday around the world. Some people celebrate it by themselves or with family and friends. “Spend as much time with family as much as possible,” said Mayah Manzano “You don’t know what’s going to happen the next day.”

Although the original purpose of Christmas was to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, many people who celebrate are not religious, or don’t believe in Jesus Christ. Whether they do or don’t believe, people who celebrate the holiday tend to stick to traditions. Those traditions include exchanging gifts, sharing food, and spending time with loved ones.

The Christmas tree is another common tradition and people often get together to decorate one in their homes or visit a local tree lighting ceremony. While the tradition is rooted in pagan celebrations, Christian reformer Martin Luther was said to be the first believer to put lighted candles on an evergreen tree Ariadna Varela enjoys the process of decorating the tree “Let’s light up the world and show the spirit of Christmas, she said.

However it is celebrated, it is the basis for family traditions that travel throughout the generations
