Dear John tells the tear-jerking story of a handsome young soldier, John Tyree (Channing Tatum) home leave in South Carolina. John had been solely raised by his autistic father (Richard Jenkins), a very relaxed man who spends most of his time collecting coins. Amanda Seyfield (Savannah Curtis) is the ambitious, blonde college student who meets John on the shore after he dived in to get her purse, and the two make an instant connection.

She comes from a wealthy family with two parents in the household. For the two weeks that John is on leave, they spend almost every day together and fall more in love with every second. However, John must return to his military assignment for a year, leaving Savannah behind. The two write letters back and forth throughout the year, but the events of 9/11 cause John to reenlist and his absence is far longer than he ever planned. When John returns home seven years later, his world is turned upside down.

Things have changed a lot since the last time he was home, but will John be able to accept how different his life will be? Overall, the movie had such good chemistry between John and Savannah. It made my emotions range from joyful to devastated throughout the entire movie. It is definitely worth watching if you´re a hopeless romantic, or maybe in need of a good cry. The movie is based upon Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling novel Dear John. The movie was filmed in Charleston, South Carolina and was released in theatres on January 10, 2010. Dear John was Sparks’ sixth movie adaptation.
