“At first it sounded like a fun outlet to get to know people,” Nathan Klassen said about being part of leadership. “I continue to do it so that I can try and help spread the ‘ideal high school experience.’”

“A lot of students have a negative attitude toward events and if I pose the question, ‘What would make you go?’ they do not give an answer, so please be optimistic!” he said. For those interested in contributing to improving the “ideal high school experience” in the same ways that Klassen does, he says that he would suggest they move forward and join leadership. “That is the only way to find out if you do or don’t like it,” he said. He also encourages students to attend prom.

Klassen serves as Junior Class Vice President and said that he is usually responsible to lead meetings, “whether it be about homecoming or fundraisers.” While being involved now is an enriching experience, he’s not sure if he’d be willing to continue into college. “I’ve always heard that college is very stressful as is, so I will most likely not pursue student government through college,” said Klassen.

While Klassen is heavily involved at Armijo in serving for office, he is also involved in other ways. He runs track for the Armijo Indians and is part of the Around the World Club and the College and Career Club. Outside of school, he also plays club volleyball.

In the future, Klassen plans to go to a four-year university and either major in something science-based, like chemistry, or pre-law. His brother James (19) is in the Marine Corps while his sister Analise (20) is in grad school. “I don’t have a particular role model, but I appreciate those who are always positive,” he said.
