The hottest day of the year is still to come but it may not be too far off.
Last year, on June 18, the temperature in Sacramento reached 106 degrees,
although the hottest days of the year tend to take place later in the summer. The hottest
day usually follows a month or two after the summer solstice. The phenomenon is
known as the lag of the seasons because the hot weather always lags behind the year’s
longest day and highest sun. According to https://weatherwest.com/archives/5860, 2017
was one of the hottest years on record, but things have been pretty tame so far for
2018.
The hottest day recorded in California for 2018 was back in April. “It's only April
but it's going to feel like summer for the next couple of days,” the National Weather
Service said in a report in the Los Angeles Times on April 9. The report went on to
share meteorologist Curt Kaplan’s perspective. “A high-pressure system is bringing
potentially record-breaking heat across the Southland, where temperatures from Long
Beach to Camarillo on Monday will be anywhere from 15 to 20 degrees above the
seasonal average,” he said.
Temperatures are expected to get hotter once summer hits. If the trend goes the
way it has in the past, we won’t see the really hot days until just before school starts, so
having air-conditioning on campus is one great reason to come back in August. For
