Assist-a- Grad Applications due at the end of February

Assist-a- Grad, a non-profit organization which has awarded over 4,000
scholarships to students totaling well over $3 million, opened applications for
scholarships on Tuesday, January 16.
The exact timeline of events for Assist-a- Grad is as follows:
– January 16 – Brochures/Applications/Website available (http://assist-a-
grad.org/about.html)
– February 28 – Application Deadline (must be submitted and reviewed earlier)
– March 15 – Interview notices will be mailed
– Beginning of April – Interview Workshop (exact date TBA)
– April 9 – 18 Interviews – AHS

Students can apply for up to two Assist-a- Grad scholarships, the value of which
can vary from $300 to $2,500. Application packets can be found on the Assist-a- Grad
website (http://assist-a- grad.org/about.html) but they cannot be submitted online. They
must be turned in as a physical copy to Ms. Sandy Anderson in the College and Career
Center in the library. They must be reviewed so, while the ultimate deadline to submit
completed applications is February 26 by 3:30 pm, members of the Assist-a- Grad
board will be available in the library on February 21 and 22 to review applications.
Candidates are asked to complete applications in pen or printed out from the computer.
Submitting applications early is a great way to increase the chance of being accepted.
The Armijo Library asks that you do not print applications in the library. The
College and Career Center has 50 copies available for pick-up and they are available
on a first-come, first-served basis.
What do applicants need to supply?
– Student’s information. (Name, address, weighted GPA, parents’ careers
and positions, etc.)
– Number of children living in the home
– Number of siblings in college
– College applied to, as well as career/major goals
– Student Activity Record.
– Personal Statement (additional essays may be required)
– Two letters of recommendation
– Unofficial copy of transcript

Candidates need to make sure that they have completed the application correctly
or Assist-a- Grad may reject it. If an application is accepted, the candidate will be
interviewed by an Assist-a- Grad representative. They will be interviewed by sponsors or
board members of Assist-a- Grad, and may be interviewed by one person or a panel of
interviewers. This interview is a very important part of the process, and it’s important
that students answer questions honestly. An interview workshop will be in the
beginning of April, with the exact date to be announced. Candidates will receive a
letter giving interview date(s) and time(s); these dates and times are non-negotiable.
Any further questions should be directed to Mrs. Anderson in the library’s College
and Career Center.
