With college application deadlines rapidly approaching, for some International Baccalaureate (IB) students the question is creeping up: What schools will accept IB credits? All of the hard work that an IB student puts in for the IB diploma or certificate should be rewarded.

As far as CSUs and UCs go, it can be a deciding factor between the two. Those who receive the IB diploma with at least 30 points can receive 30 credits at UCs. However, those who are not going for the IB diploma but receive a five or above can get credits towards a UC degree.

For CSUs, it varies campus to campus. However, each CSU will grant credit for HL (higher level) courses. Depending on the exam, a student must receive a 4 or a 5 or above.

Many other schools do offer IB credit, in and out of California, but potential students should make sure to look up the schools first to see what they can offer in terms of credits. It’s important for IB students to not let the diploma or credits go unrewarded just because check to see what the school offered!

Also, if a school does offer IB credit, there should be a passing score for that exam. IB students should make sure to know what that score is, and study hard for the exams in May to receive it! Those who do the research now should make a special effort in the spring to get those high passing grades. It will be worth the study time.
