The COVID-19 Pandemic has created significant disruptions to the college and life plans of young adults with learning and attention issues all across the country. Students are changing their college plans, reducing credit loads, losing out on internship and job opportunities, and dealing with the consequences of a global pandemic. NCLD recognizes the hardship our young adults are facing and has put together a new scholarship intended to support those students whose college and life plans have been significantly impacted by COVID-19.

NCLD will award twelve $1,500 scholarships to those students who experienced significant disruptions in their undergraduate or graduate plans due to COVID-19. Eligible students will need to complete an application at this link. Finalists will be asked to complete a short 20-minute interview before decisions are made.

What counts as a “significant disruption” due to COVID-19?

We consider disruptions to be any of the following:

• A change of enrollment, from one school to another, due to COVID-19
• A change of financial aid/status as a result of COVID-19
• A change in credit load that impacts your financial aid and/or expected completion date
• A loss of an internship or career opportunity as a result of COVID-19

Learning disabilities and ADHD are brain based difficulties in reading, writing, math, organization, focus, listening comprehension, social skills, motor skills or a combination of these. Learning disabilities are also known as learning and attention issues (dyslexia, dyscalculia, etc.) and ADHD. Others may also use the term learning differences. Many students with learning disabilities have an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) or a 504 Plan while in school.

*Autism Spectrum Disorder is not considered a learning disability for the purposes of NCLD scholarships.
