The Solano Symphony Orchestra’s annual Salute to Youth concert, underwritten in part by the generous support of the Margaret Beelard Community Foundation, presents young soloists and ensemble musicians at their best. Maestro Semyon Lohss and the orchestra (SSO) accompany the three winners of the 2018 Young Artist’s Competition who perform classical music of the highest order. On saxophone, Arianna Mestas plays the beguiling Saxophone Concerto by Glazunov; on the violin, Amaryn Olmeda performs the brilliant Finale of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1; and, at the piano, Adrian Zaragoza plays the passionate first movement of Grieg’s Piano Concerto. The program showcases ensembles of string and wind players in two pieces dedicated to each of these instrument families. The string players of the Vacaville High School Premiere Orchestra—Music Director, Melinda Packer—join the strings of the SSO in the Serenade for Strings by Victor Herbert, and the wind players of The Wind Ensemble of Vanden High School—Music Director, Bryan Williams—join the SSO winds in “O Magnum Mysterium” by Morten Lauridsen. The full orchestra and full cast of young players then fill the stage to perform highlights of the thrilling music by John Williams from the film, Jurassic Park. Don’t miss this stirring presentation of music by the world’s finest composers brought to life by performers brimming with youthful energy and presented with mature skill and insight.
