At Work: All in the Family

When Abdulbari Saeed was looking for a job, he didn’t have to look far. His father runs a local Smoke Shop and Saeed drops in about one day a work to help him out.

Saeed doesn’t have to do a lot, but if he is there for a couple of hours, his father does pay him $40. It is, essentially, a weekly allowance and his father benefits from getting some additional help. “I only go sit there and help my dad sometimes,” Saeed said.

Having his father as his boss makes life easier, in some ways. He can check his “work schedule” by asking his father if he needs to come in and he can get his salary at home. And when he’s not at work or in class, what does he do? “I just stay home and do my homework,” said Saeed.
