Alec Merodio Volunteer with Empty Bowl project

Alec Merodio volunteers at many different places. He first got involved in volunteering through his membership in 4-H and had volunteered with The Empty Bowl project in the past. “I saw things could be improved,” he said. So he set out to do just that.

In early October, Merodio helped organize, set-up and work at feeding the hungry audience, He also gave a speech of encouragement. “I saw a way to make a positive change in our community and I took it,” said Merodio, who admits to volunteering for “a long time.”

Merodio is part of the second generation in his family that attended Armijo. His mother graduated from this campus as did his older brother Carson Merodio. When he graduates, he hopes to go to either Stanford or the Air Force Academy.

An avid volunteer for many different groups, Merodio would encourage others to find their niche and enjoy the benefits of the practice. “[Volunteering] opens many doors and opportunities,” he said.
