The Weirdest Phobias in America

Most people in America and around the world have some sort of fear. These irrational fears are often sparked by some sort of past trauma, whole others may just be the factor of something that makes you uncomfortable without any particular reason. While arachnophobia, the fear of spiders, is a very common and relatable phobia, there are many other phobias that the majority of people will not understand.

For example, Chaetophobia is the fear of hair which is something that might make a little sense to some people. On the other hand, Arachibutyrophobia is a much more specific and strange fear of having peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth. Most people have probably had peanut butter stuck to the roof of their mouth at least once, unless you’re allergic to peanuts. Somniphobia is the fear of sleep, which could easily get into the way of somebody’s healthy life. Last but not least is Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, which is the irrational fear of very long words. It’s very interesting that the name of a phobia is exactly the cause of that fear. But even this fear may seem more likely than not, I’m sure everyone has seen an extremely long word on a test and instantly felt fear because they understood nothing about it.

These phobias are just few of many more, but remember that it’s alright to be afraid of things! You don’t need a reason to feel fear and don’t let anybody else tell you that there’s something wrong with you because of your phobias. They’re called irrational fears for a reason.
