Book Review | Worth the Chase |

Break free. Leave and forget it all. Simple words a teen would say if he or she was having a bad day, but for Christy her whole life has been a bad day ever since her father died when she was younger.

When I read Chasing Tail Lights by Patrick Jones, it really hit home. I can relate to many of the things she went through. Her father had told her to the ´Chase the Tail Lights´ and that’s what she does.

Christy has three siblings: Robert, who is 24, Mitchell, who is now16, and Ryan, who is 21. Her extended family includes Bree, Robert’s daughter.

Christy hides from her best friend, from her teacher and from herself. Alternating current chapters with flashback chapters helps to paint a picture of Christy’s life and it really helps the reader understand her past.

The theme of “chasing tail lights” continues throughout the book as a metaphor for escaping reality, and once the reader realizes what Christy’s reality contains, escaping it seems like a good idea.

I recommend this book for the kind of reader who understands the tough life of a teen girls who was born and raised on the wrong side of the tracks. This book will make you cry, smile, and put you in shock. You will get a lot of WOW moments throughout the book which will make you want to read it even more. I am happy that I got to read this book and you should be excited to read it.
