Last spring, Armijo High School students were looking for a new leader, someone who could guide the school through the 2018-2019 school year. Students elected Lewa Day to serve as the Associated Student Body (ASB) president.

Day is just starting her fourth year at Armijo, but she’s been involved with student government before. She served as the president for her sophomore class in 2016-2017, and originally got involved in student government to meet new people and to be more involved in school.

While she has many responsibilities as ASB president, Day wishes that she also had the power to make changes in the way students are taught. Since all students don’t all learn the same way, she reasoned, teachers shouldn’t all teach the same way.

Not only is she involved in serving the school in the capacity of the ASB president, but Day also represents the school as a member of the Armijo Indians’ softball team. Her role model is softball player Sierra Romero, who played for the Michigan Wolverines and now coaches the Oregon Ducks. Day hopes to be just like Romero, but may go on to become a physical therapist later.

Day has an older sibling, Armando Day, who graduated from Rodriguez High School in 2014.
