Movie Review: A Not So Simple Favor

Single mommy-vlogger Stephanie’s simple parenting life is interrupted when she meets Emily, the mom of her son’s new friend, Nicky. Emily’s off-brand parenting, as well as her intense nature, draws quirky and slightly aloof Stephanie close and they become fast friends. Their new dynamic is suddenly disrupted when Emily goes missing. Stephanie is quick to alert the police as well as comfort Emily’s husband and son. She also takes it upon herself to begin investigating Emily’s disappearance.

Directed by Paul Feig, A Simple Favor, a R-rated thriller, was released Friday, September 14. Twist after turn after twist, the moms pull the audience into their tale and catch us hook, line, and sinker. The character’s relationships are so realistic—from their awkward first encounter to their awkward friendship because of their differing personalities. The humor was as remarkable as its plot…okay, maybe not that much. But it was really good!

The movie makes you question everything about it. You’re never truly sure who’s telling the truth and who’s lying. As the movie progress, the plot can only thicken and the mystery never is absolutely solved. At the very least, our beloved characters are redeemed. If not that, we do love them anyways. 10/10 would recommend.
