Anya Jackson has been cheering for the Armijo Indians for the past two years and, this year, she is serving as squad captain. “I wanted to do cheer because I love creating a tight bond with new girls each year,” she said.

That bond has started to grow this year. Jackson said that, although she’s been cheering for a couple of years, her most memorable game was the make-up game that was held on Tuesday, August 28 against Bethel. “It was my first game with a whole new team and we did amazing,” she said. “I love my new coaches; they helped us become the great team that the school loves.”

She hopes to continue cheer in college but doesn’t participate in any other sports right now. “The only thing I do is cheer,” she said. “I love the sport.” She said that she would encourage anyone who was interested in cheer to just have fun with it. “If you have fun, things will come naturally.”

Jackson noticed that students at Armijo don’t always have take advantage of the opportunities available in high school. “I would just want to change the attitudes of the students,” she said. “I want them to be more positive and to join more clubs and sports.”

“I hope more people try out for cheer,” Jackson said. “It’s a great sport!!”
